Ferrosilicon 70

It is used as an inoculant and a nodularizing agent in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, has excellent casting properties and much better shock resistance than steel. Especially ductile iron, its mechanical properties are comparable or close to steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbides in iron and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. Therefore, in the production of ductile iron, ferrosilicon is an important inoculant (helps to precipitate graphite) and nodularizer.

Among these uses, the steelmaking, foundry and ferroalloy industries are users of ferrosilicon. Together they consume about 90% of the ferrosilicon. Among various grades of ferrosilicon, 75% ferrosilicon is widely used at present. In the steelmaking industry, 3-5 kg of 75% ferrosilicon is consumed per ton of steel produced.
